Spanish Trip to the BFI

Published on:

On Tuesday 27thFebruary 2018, fifteen year 5 and 6 children from Riversdale School went to the BFI on the South Bank, London. We went with Natalie, Ruth and Nadia.

Crossing Hungerford Bridge on the way to the BFI.

First of all we left school, and went to Southfield to take the Tube to Embankment. Then, when we had arrived at Embankment, we walked over the Southbank. There, we walked along the riverfront to the BFI building. When we were in we each received a booklet with numerous different activities in it. Then we were led to a large theatre with a large cinema screen at the front.

We were introduced to a lady who would show us through the next two hours. In that time we would watch video clips that would help us through the activities on the sheet we were given when we arrived. We started off with a warm up word search to do with the cinema (the words were all in Spanish). Afterwards, we completed the activities on our sheet. We watched the video clip the activity was related with then completed the activities on the sheet by memorising the clip. The different clips were the following: La jirafa y la luna (The giraffe and the moon), Caminante, The walker, Paproflexia (origami), The present (El Regalo) and Stuffed tomatoes (Los tomates llenos).

We were all keen to share our answers with the children, from the other schools, who also took part. Even Nadia joined in with answering the question!

Lunchtime in the foyer of the BFI

After we had completed all the activities on the sheet, we left the theatre and had lunch. We all had our own packed lunch or a school made one while sitting in the foyer of the BFI. Then, when we had finished our packed lunches, we were led back into the same theatre as before. We went back to sit down at the very same seats as earlier.

The woman who had led us through the activities before lunch was there again. She said we were going to watch a film in Spanish called Carlitos. It did have subtitles in English so we could all follow the storyline. Through the next one and three quarters of an hour we watched the film. It was about a boy called Carlitos (hence the film name) who was an orphan at an orphanage run by a horrible man. Carlitos had a dream of becoming a famous footballer but the horrible man who ran the orphanage hated the sport and banned it at the orphanage. There is only one person at the orphanage who can help Carlitos achieve his life goal…

After we had finished watching the film we were led out of the theatre again and led into the entrance hall we had entered through earlier. We were put back with our partners and led out the BFI building. While we were inside it had snowed and settled. Everything was white! Finally, we were led back to the station got on the Tube back to Southfields.
